 "Great monster bashing fun." 2008-06-22
By Gaffer (UK)
For those that don't know, this is a continuation of the GC one of the series (Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee - I used to own this and loved it). Great monster bashing fun, but not without it's problems:

The controls: The GC controls were a bit clunky and awkward at times. My hope was that the Wii version (with it's unique mapping of wiimote and nunchuk) would have the problem sorted and controls would no longer be an issue (in fact I was looking forward to using them - the nunchuk is used for movement and the wiimote for attacks).....

Having to unlock everything in single player to be able to use in multiplayer: Mildly frustrating because a lot of the levels required to unlock certain monsters were rock hard. I don't want to buy a multiplayer game only to have most of the promised goodies locked away in a single player story.......I HATE it when devs do this ........

So I didn't initally buy this game for fear it would be worse than the first in these 2 key areas.

I must say that most of my initial fears were unfounded.

The unlocking is not a problem any more because not only is there a code available that you can enter into the game to unlock everything but you can download a pre-unlocked save game from the 'net and use that (go to WiiSave).

"....but that's cheating" I hear you say.

Not really, say I. I have no interest whatsoever in the story line, nor in the single player. Nor do I wish to waste hours and hours trying to unlock things so that when I do play against friends, I am some sort of uberleet Godzilla Master from all the hours of practise, and they're clueless noobs, blundering around and dying .

This way, I haven't had any "practise" as it's all unlocked, it isn't online so stats don't matter, and we're all on a level playing field (the reason I bought this was purely for the 4 player multiplayer side - for which I need everything unlocked).

So onto the game, wrt my first fear above I think the controls are actually very good. It's unfortunate reviewers nowadays seem to spend very little time with the games they are meant to review as if they had spent 2-3 days, I think things would've clicked nicely for them (one of the reason for low score on metacritic imo). The reason they appear broken to some is that people may have a tendency to button mash. Do you remember playing Street Fighter with no clue as to what did what but still managing to beat people by button mashing? .....and how, after moving to the Tekken series, that was very much reduced because timing your attacks was key, mixed with knowing when to guard?

Well, in the same way, you can't just "button mash" or "wildly swing" your way to victory in this, you need to time things well and pace attacks/defence......so I have very few issues with the control scheme I'm happy to report. I feel it's actually quite good once you get used to it (everyone whom I have played with has had no difficulty with the controls after a few days - even someone who intially did got the hang of it after 3 days).

The multiplayer is brilliant with things from "last man standing" to standard brawl type affairs.

My one criticism is that attacks are OK, but the monsters have too much health (4 "units" each giving you a full bar to start with) meaning that battles can take ages if you're only 2 players.

This can be reduced by having 4 player multiplayer (the main fun of this game imo) and with everyone going hell for leather trying to bash each other, health reduces more quickly .

Multiplayer is where this game really shines with not only 4 modes (destroy the city, deathmatch, last man standing, teams) but 4 slots for your own custom criteria .....so anything goes really.

Graphics are top notch too, I really don't see why everyone thinks they're bad. When I play, I don't even notice them as I'm too busy having fun, but even when I do, the cities and monsters look great (I mean, for crying out loud, the original Kaiju are blokes running around in big rubber suits :D, it's not hard to get more "realism" than that out of the Wii).

In comparison to vids/reviews I've seen of SSBB, the arena's in G:U are 3D (not 2D), larger, and you can see what you're doing (makes a change not having the camera positioned miles away from the action). In fact, the camera moves nicely so that you always see all of the area you need to see all the time. Every now and then, a building will get in the way, so it automatically becomes semi-transparent so that you can see what you're doing - so 99% of the time, it isn't an issue.

However, there is NO online at all in this game....of any kind :(.

Summary: With everyone having the same level of ability wrt the controls, it's actually quite a good laugh as a party type of game.

Bear in main, that my thoughts are based on the fact that this is now a £15 game in many shops.......for which I think it's a good buy & great vfm. I'd give the game a solid 75%.

"For hardcore fans only - even then it's pretty weak...." 2008-02-28
By Haunted Nostril (UK)
I have been a fan of Godzilla since I first saw a few of his films on channel 4 as a kid, sad I know, but even if you dig the big green guy you will not fail to be disappointed by this game. All the major monster food groups are represented and any long standing fan will probably get a kick out of unlocking them and seeing what they do, as I did, but for anyone else this game is just hideous. There are no explosive powers to speak of, like there where in the first two games, your monster just goes atomic and looks all cracked and fiery - like in Godzilla vs. Destroyah - and then your attack strength, supposedly, goes up...wow. The attacks don't feel powerful, the battles take far too long and the graphics are nothing to write home about - not bad - just not `Mario galaxy' great. The controls aren't that tweaked either, they haven't even put a classic controller option in which would only marginally improve the situation anyway...in fact this title has nothing going for it unless you, like me, are a fan of the kaiju genre, and if that's the case, by all means, get it but wait till it goes into the bargain bucket or you'll feel like a right kipper.

 "Awesome, Fast paced Action!" 2009-07-25
By Mr. C. D. Welham (Essex, England)
This game is AWESOME!

A fast paced fighter. The brilliant thing about this game is that it's easy to learn quickly, so easy that, when i took round my friend house, he beat me twice! (and i was trying my hardest!).

Also the storyline is bril,, and long to boot. It goes through the whole of the dragonball series, with ove 50 hours of gameplay! WOW, for a fighter!

The graphics are imense for the wii, the gameplay never slows or stutters, and the character roster, over 50! Thats a lot of choice!

This game is essential for fighters and people who are fans of amazing games!

Graphics: 9/10

Gameplay: 9/10

Storyline: 10/10!

Overall: 9/10

"...erm, it's cool, but not for everybody" 2007-11-19
By Andy (Omega Land)
This game is cool - it looks and sounds like the anime (or at least the 30-or so episodes I've seen) and it's no doubt like manna from heaven for fans of the anime and this series of games... but... I found it a bit hard.

I'm not usually one to complain about difficulty - I like a challenge - but I just can't remember all the different moves for the different characters - it gets to the stage where you can't remember what actions to do with a particular charachter so you just shake the controls around like an idiot. Funny for whoever is watching but really frustrating 'coz it means you're not going to be able to do some really cool move and will probably get your butt kicked into the next dimension. Seriously!

This also makes it really hard for other people to pick up and play - it's next to useless when friends come over as they'd have to spend a good couple of hours with the tutorials before being able to play - unless you have a couple of regular challengers this is not really a multiplayer game.

I hate to moan, but there's more - I can't help but feeling that I'm putting myself at an instant disadvantage by trying to use the wii-mote and nunchuck (which is kind of why I bought the Wii)- I did try playing the game with a wavebird when it was all getting a bit much and, although I was back to square one with what button does what, I did feel a little more competitive because when you press a button something happens - this is not always the case with the motion sensitive controls. With the wii controls you can often do the 'up' motion to fly upwards sharply (usually to avoid an attack) and nothing happens - the is much easier on the wavebird as you just press the z button and go - job done.

...and unfortunately one more thing... It seems that you can't challenge someone with a different controller i.e. you can't have a gamecube or wavebird plugged in and fight against someone with the wii-mote and nunchuck (or wii-mote and classic remote) - wii controllers can only fight wii controlers and gamecube pads can only fight gamecube pads... It's just the icing on the cake really!

It's dropped in price as well now, which is cool if this is the sort of game for you (really - if you've got the time to invest this would probably be quite good)- but for me it just means I won't be able to trade it in for as much... wow - even I didn't know I could be this miserable :P

 "Simply fantastic!" 2007-06-10
By M - Tom
I own this game for the Wii and PS2 and although the Wii ones are harder to learn and master i now prefer the Wii as they give you some of the feeling of being in the game and are alot more interactive.

As to the actual game, the graphics are stunning, the story mode offers hours of fun, working through DragonBall Z to GT. With around 120 characters you'll never get bored. It delivers loads of fighting fun and you look forward to unlocking the new characters and power levels

The cut scenes are often annoying as you just want to get to the fighting, but are neccessary to tell the story. And the only other problem is the battle areas - at first they look massive, but when you start fighting and you smash your opponent flying you notice them hit a big laser grid. This shows just how limited the areas actually are, with this limiting the fighting area all they way around.

Altogether an excellent purchase and well worth getting for hours of fun!

By P. Kershaw (London)
Fans of the series will adore the attention to detail in this fighter. The inclusion of many of the characters, some of which have to be unlocked makes the game. The cut scenes between fights are fantastic. The control system takes some getting used to but isn't terrible; this was a launch title in Japan so there was no feedback on successful usage of the controller and nun-chuck during development. This has caused a slightly tricky take on the traditional fighter punch/kick control system. However, once mastered the game plays like an episode of the massively popular anime.

"DMN shortest game ever created" 2008-02-29
By Mr. D. Newman (UK)
I'm a Big fan of bleach and im eager to see more, however this game is far too short and nintendo have obviously only thought about the controls and thats it.

Neither does this game follow the story in "story mode", you fight all of 7 characters and theres the credits rolling down your screen. I played dragonball z for the wii and thought it was very good, graphic and gameplay wise and controls were also avery fitting with the sensor for kamahamama waves ect. This game needed more planning behind it like DBZ.

I sincerily hope that nintendo give this title a sequal that has a lot more to offer.

"Don't bother getting the first game!!!" 2009-10-29
By M. Reynolds (Barnsley, South Yorkshire England)
I asked for this for my birthday. I don't have the first game out of the revolution series, but I'm happy enough with the second one!!! out of the reviews for the revolution series I've read online, it says that the second one is better because it has more characters and an improved story. They were right!!! They are LOADS of characters to play, the graphics are good and it has a new fresh storyline, it isn't just following the story of naruto. the controls are a bit tricky at first, but once you grasp them, battles are really fun. there are tutorials and training missions, so you can grasp the controls before you go into story mode. I really recommend this game!!!

I havent unlocked all the characters yet, but here are the ones I've unlocked so far.

Naruto, sasuke, Sakura, Lee, Neji, Tenten, gaara, temari, kankuro, ino, shikamaru, choji, shino, hinata, kiba, kakashi, guy, jiraiya, tsunade. I think there are others like nine tailed naruto and itachi, but like I said I havent unlocked them all yet.

 "Alright, but confusing." 2009-06-03
By Brand Fan
It's good, but it's very tricky to grasp the controls, you have to remember to do so many things It can get really confusing, and even now after viewing the tutorial, and playing the game for about 2 hours, it's still not 100% clear. i'm still struggling with all the controlls.

Other than that it's actually quite good fun, and when you do get the hang of it i'm sure it can be quite good, I haven't really spent enough time on it to get the full idea of the game. Probably better when you have more time to use it.

the game is a little out of date now, it's still pre-shippuuden so the characters power levels are a bit different. Even so if you like Naruto enough it's pretty good fun.

Developed by Yokohama-based Arc System Works, Guilty Gear Core is the third installment in the series and is widely cited as one of the most carefully balanced fighting games in existence, thanks to a refined combat system with three new game play modes. Guilty Gear Core features over 20 deadly combatants and includes an alternate EX version of all the existing characters. On top of all this, the game also introduces two reinvented fighters, A.B.A. and Order-Sol, who have never been seen outside of Japan. Guilty Gear Core makes maximum use of the Wii controller, allowing players to move characters with the control pad on the Nunchuk and use the Wii Remote for both simple and special attacks. Some of the less powerful attacks are mapped on the Wii Remote buttons and the special attacks are executed through both button and movement with the Nunchuk or the Wii Remote.

I agree with the above poster, this game is incredible, I am an old skooler who use to duel it out since the days of street fighter on every 2D fighter but this is combo crazy, and the characters look cool. Don't bother playing with Wiiremote/nunchuck it's useless, get yourself a wavebird controller or better yet a arcade stick. In my opinion this is the greatest 2D fighter ever, with air combos, air control, double jump, fast paced, shadow moves, it beat's street fighter and any other 2D fighter, yes even all thos marvel vs capcom and capcom vs snk thing.

It would have been even better if this was playable online.

By Mr. A. J. Bender
A really fast, incredibly technical and vivid 2D beat em up!!

In response to some of the overly critical reviews that the game reviewed in reference to it's controls, I think it is important to point out, the game is designed and is best played using the gamecube pad or classic control attachment..I have to be honest I haven't bothered with the wii remote and anyone buying this game would be best advised to play it the way inteneded.

The game really does looks smooth and features some attractive if not slightly bizarre character models I've seen. The pace that the battles can reach is nothing less then sickening and the hardcore guitar mashing only aids in the fun.

Being a fan of this genre, I instantly fell for Guilty Gear and it's lush design, perhaps the only criticism I had was for the surface depth of the game. If like me you like to beat a game and be treated to some nice cut scenes, you will be sadly disapointed, however it really isn't about that !! this is one for the hardcore beat em junkie, but anyonee who wants to get canned up and beat some friends to the sound of guitars being mashed will adore this..

Heaven or Hell...Heaven for some, hell for the casual gamer who can't get past the dated genre of 2d beat em ups!

This game is really cool for wii. But i don't like the online play, it lags so make sure your wii is as close as it can be to your wireless router or if your using a network cable, your fine. If you playing with a friend make sure their doing that to. I was thinking to buy the ps2 version as well but i couldn't resist online play and using the wii remote to do a kamehamehaaaaaaaa. But doing this is hard and takes a lot of effort. Sometimes, while trying to do an exploding masenko or normal masenko, you find the wii motes clash together, not very nice. Its a fun game, cool graphics and has a good soundtrack. But i don't like the opening movie, it's in a diff language!!

"Why did i wait for the wii conversion??" 2008-04-04
By G. Reith (UK)
Anyone who's played the previous budokai tenkaichi titles will know what to expect this time round. High octane battles in space with all your favourite characters from the series. I must admit this game captures the essence of dragon ball the best of all the dragon ball games i've played. In the story mode rather than giving lots of different battles that only last about five minutes this game decides to give you only a few stages for each saga, but lengthen them out by showing all the transformations and team changes in real time, a feature that works well and gives the game an incredibly cinematic quality. Overall if you like dragon ball z you will love this game, and you'll love it for a long time as well due to the vast amount of game modes.

My main criticism of this game is the wii conversion, something which i've been waiting what seems like an age for. I was hoping for some intuitive remote controls and the rumors of an online mode kept me anticipating this games release on wii. This was a mistake however as the wii controls are very clumbsy and frustrating and i gave up after about an hour or so and just settled with using my old gamecube controller. And the online mode is absolutely appaling. The lag is immense the speed is greatly reduced and it just seems very sloppy. There are also the usual problems with the wii's online gaiming in general like the cumbersome use of 12 digit codes to add friends to your friends list and all that.

All in all if you like dragon ball i recommend getting this game but on PS2 rather than wii the PS2 versions been out for a few months now and is only 20 quid.

By John Evans (Teesside, England)
I have to say im a big fan of Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy of the TV series but the game well no. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is one of Cartoon Network's popular shows and its just a show that i do love. As i like the series a lot i went out and bought the game and or did i make a big mistake this game is really short only 5 levels long. Another disappointing thing about this its not an adventure its just fighting, adding to the Wii control system just will not even fit to this game it feels like everything your doing just does'nt work but i still finished the game with them took me about 40 minutes. The game features levels from the show it's self, it features 20 players you will have seen from TV.

On a good note this features all the cast members voices from the TV show i just like Richard Horvitz doing Billy's voice and Greg Eagles doing Grim's voice. But the voices are only short sound clips meaning your going to get the same ones every time. High Voltage Software feels like they never put any thought into the game instead it looks like it has been rushed. The story is way to short this is just a direct port as it was from the gamecube and it feels that the controls just dont even respond. I cant believe that Cartoon Network let them do this to the game its just really disappointing.

If you see this cheap then buy it but you will be disappointed with how short this game is next time get a better developer and dont use High Voltage Software there games are terrible.

"Fun game, worthwhile to buy" 2009-09-08
By Angela Neill (United Kngdom)
If you are already a soul calibur fan then I recommend this game as this is very different to the original soul calibur and instantly becomes fun with the wii remote and nunchuk controls. In many of the levels you can switch between two characters which makes the level easier to complete as you have two different bars of health but I still found the game challenging at times. Characters include- Ivy, Astoroth, Sophita, Taki, Mitsurgi, Lloyd and in some levels you have to play only as Siefried as he is the main character.

It is nearly a purely fighting game but I enjoyed the occasional problem solving or required logic to complete a certain part. The different locations are good with interaction with the environment such as breaking barrels, switching levers and turning lights on to open doors. The enemies vary according to levels- some may need speed, some may need strength, some may need both to defeat them. I preferred this game in single player but two player is much the same with levels of competition or cooperation of two players.

Soul calibur games have never been known for their difficulty and this game is no exception. I found this challenging in only a very few levels, mostly boss levels (such as Maki and Geki- you have to kill each of them twice!). However this does not take away from enjoying the game and having fun. I would recommend this game to any gamer but may not appeal to everyone. If in doubt grab a friend and start in two player!

 "Soulcalibur Legends (Wii) Review" 2009-04-30
By D. Tovee (Norfolk, England)
This was the first action game for our Wii so I am not comparing it against another game. We found the game fun and my son played with it for a few weeks.

I think it is a rating of 15yrs but I don't know why as there is no blood the occasional swear word but it isn't strong language.

We think it is a good fun game.

this game is really fun with loads of different moves and combos, although it's just fighting which is kind of annoighing. But don't let that put you off. I recommend this.

"Less than 24 hours of fun!" 2008-10-08
By A. Kennedy (Liverpool, UK)
I got this game yesterday and have completed story mode in less than 24 hours. The game is far too easy!

Once you have completed the story mode the only thing left to do is Ultimate X matches with all the players and stadiums you have unlocked.

I think this game will be alot of fun in 2 player mode, So can't wait for our next house party!

The wii version has features missing from PS3 version and alot of the moves and features that where hyped about are missing from the game.

Overall it will give you atleast 1 days worth of fun.

"good fun for a while" 2009-02-02

Not a bad game, could definelty do with a few more match types (which I think are on the 09 game). a lot of the actions are quite repetitive but still worth a play!!

"what are you moaning about?" 2008-04-13
By Mark Regan (Cumbria)
Its got good graphics, good atmosphere and good gameplay (once my arms stop hurting I'll play some more). What I think people are complaining about is that you can't memorize all of the special moves combos and 13 button presses to annihilate your opponent in one fell swoop. I don't know about the roster yet as I haven't got miles into the game but I love the controls, I managed to punch, grapple, throw, kick and bounce off the ropes into people, I also managed to pick up a chair! Ok so I didn't manage to hit anyone but I had a good time trying to, and my wife had a good laugh when we went head to head, great entertainment the Wii is really growing in my estimations!

 "Good but not great" 2008-02-23

Very good but not an amazing wrestling game. I have played on it for 5 hours in the last 2 days, but it gets less interesting after a while.

"Good fun but lacks content" 2008-01-14
By KM (England)
'WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008' is this year's installment from wrestling's leading organisation and is also the first wrestling game to come out for the Nintendo Wii.

GAMEPLAY - 4/5

I've not played a wrestling game since WWF Wreslemania 2000 on the N64 (which was brillant for the time) and haven't actually watched wrestling since about 1999, so I don't really know most of the roster, but it doesn't stop it from being a good fun game to play. All of the moves are performed by swinging the Wii remote a nunchuck in different directions, giving you a more interactive experience than frantically bashing buttons faster than the other player. This also means that you don't have to spend ages learning moves for each wrestler, as generally pulling a move off correctly is down to luck.

GRAPHICS - 3/5

The character models of the wrestlers (and the refs) are very realistic, both in the ring and during their entrances, but the crowd looks like they are made of cardboard and are not that much better than the crowds from the days of the N64 and the Playstation.

SOUND - 5/5

All the wrestlers have their original theme tunes when entering the ring. There's also loads of commentry from the Raw, Smackdown and ECW commentators and they seem to be in time and accurate with the action that is happening in the ring.

LIFESPAN - 3/5

Unfortunately this is where this game falls majorly. I've played the PS3 version of this game and there are over 100 different match types to choose from - Royal Rumble, Hell in a Cell, ladder and the 24/7 mode. Not here. On the Wii there's only 1-on-1, tag team, hardcore (where chairs are the only weapon) andTriple Threat. This is ok for multi-player but when playing through the Career mode in single player, it can get a bit repetitive. There's also a Tournament mode which is King of the Ring, but this is strangely only 1 player. Aside from the multi-player modes, the only thing that'll really keep you playing this for a long period of time is unlocking the Legends such as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, Bret "Hitman" Hart, Rick Rude, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Shane and Vince McMahon and Mick Foley (amongst a few others) in Career mode, which did really appeal to me as these were the superstars from back in my day.

OVERALL - 3/5

Although it is good fun to play making great use of the Wii's controls, there just isn't enough content here to keep me interested long enough and will only be coming out when playing with friends now that I've unlocked all of the Legends. So unless they sort this out in next year's installment, I think I'll be getting Smackdown vs Raw 2009 on the PS3 instead, as there is endless amounts of fun on that version.
